I love Teedra Moses

Hey Teedra, first and foremost, your show was everything I wanted and more. It was intimate, you sounded great and I knew pretty much all of the songs ( i need to get familiar with more of ur mixtape music tho!). I look forward to seeing another show whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Your music is part of the soundtrack of my life. I have experienced many important life experiences since your album has dropped and I have listened to your songs for strength and inspiration. Everybody that I have introduced your work to, falls in love with you. There is such a great connection in your music. Every word is so sincere that it makes me feel like I can believe everything you say. You are the kind of artist that other artists strive to be. You don't just make music that sounds good, you create connections. I Think of You (Shirley's Song) has gotten me through a lot. Everything from the ending of a long term relationship, to the passing of my uncle. I would keep it on repeat, cry and write my heart out. Its hard to put into words, but that song really helped me out of some really tough times.

I am not just a fan of your music, I am a fan of you. Not that I know your personal life, but the fact that you keep making music, performing and the way you treat your fans, is priceless. You really put your heart into your work and it shows. I can never thank you enough for blessing the world with your beautiful songs. The fact that you knew who I was when I walked into the venue, was life changing! lol I look up to you and I look forward to more of your music.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Mike Milan

Best thing ever

She makes me a believer.

Thank you, Mrs. Clinton for reminding  me why I am a democrat and why I love this country.
Seeing this really makes me understand that at some point in my life, sooner then later, I need to contribute to society in a bigger fashion and that giving up is not an option.

Rock With Me

I thought I would share one of my favorite videos. It is no secret that I love Janet. She inspires the dancer in me and this video really brought me back to the clubs. It is highly overlooked but whenever it is played, people really react well to it. I tend to zone out and feel like I am in the video. Such a sexy and dark feeling..

This is another favorite that was highly overlooked as well. I tend to lose weight to this one:

Down in Virgina.

I had the privilege of visiting my friend John and staying in his home. He is such an amazing person. I have met very few people with as much drive as him. This weekend I was able to see where a lot of his magic comes from. Everything from his diverse neighborhood, friends, family, school, job, old school hangouts and hot spots.

It was not like how we do when we are in NYC, this trip was far more organic. Everything about him is larger then life. Physically..he is a tall man, everything else follows suit. It was great to see this country-like surrounding helped create such a creative and cutting edge person. As soon as I got to his house, his Mom had already prepared Chicken Adobo. I never had it before, but it was great tasting and ethnic. It reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. She sang around the house and was very talkative, I could feel so much warmth from her and I saw a lot of that in John as well.

If you are ever around my Mom long enough, you will see the traits I have inherited from her...impatience and shady glares. lol

But yeah...it was a very relaxing weekend and I have a lot more respect for John (not that I ever lacked any..)

Not only do I consider him to be a good friend, but I see him as a person who is good for me. Sometimes you look up and you realize that somebody is good for you. He is far from perfect and I do not idolize him. That is just a set up for dissapointment. Nonetheless, he is a good influence and I appreciate him.

On a random note, he knows how to draw his mans face without looking at any pictures. You have to really love somebody to know their features inside and out.

Beautiful huh?

Real Mary fans know..

..that when Mary cries...you cry.

This Grammy Performance (along with her first win onstage) had me holding back my tears. I love Mary like she is family. I have watched her grow and I have grown with her. No matter how happy Mary gets, we will always see the pain on her face that she had to endure. And oddly enough it looks great.

I love you Mary.

Another Happy Belated Birthday...

..to Aaliyah Dana Haughton. Born January 16, 1979.

She would have been 27 this year but instead she is timeless.

The song titles "One In A Million" and "More Then A Woman" couldn't describe her any better. It always takes an artist like Aaliyah to start a new sound for a genre of music. Never was she a huge star like Beyonce or Britney Spears, but she helped change the sound of R&B before they came out. One In A Million marked the explosian of double beats in R&B music that had some radio DJ's scratching their heads with the fact that they had a hot track....but didn't know how to mix it in with the "other" music they had. Good music always prevails one way or another and tracks like "4 Page Letter," "Hot Like Fire" and of course "One In A Million" changed the direction of black music forever. How did this happen? This was the official unveiling of Timbaland and Missy's off the hook sound (that everybody wanted AFTERwards).

While first getting their feet wet with Jodeci, the duo created a different sound that landed in Aaliyah's lap. Had it been another R&B star this might not have happened. However she wanted a change from her first album and took a chance. That chance paid off and One In A Million is a bonafide classic and must have for your R&B collection. She was on her way to being a big star but unfortunately she passed away and left many of us with feelings of "what could have happened next?" But for me what was supposed to happen already happened. Anybody can be a big star with the right gimmick or right talent at the right time....but can we all change something as big as music?

Thank you Aaliyah for taking a chance.
